About

I make my work to explore and celebrate the beauty and depth the most ordinary life holds.

Trees and birds figure prominently in my work. They embody the inherent joy being alive. My sense of line is deeply influenced by the stately but unruly lines trees make on the winter sky. Birds are both noble and comical. The way they fly around without pride or embarrassment is profoundly beautiful.

I use text in most of my work to serve as the human presence. Language is not only our voice to express, it is a tool that gives us more leverage to understand and experience life.

Ultimately I want my art to serve the human potential. In her book, All About Love, bell hooks points out that while we are surrounded by images of unrealistic romance, unhealthy relationships, violence and disrespect we rarely see images of people loving each other in genuine ways. I agree, I make my work as another voice for love, and work to capture the deep respect and gratitude of beings comfortable with their place in the mystery of life.
